  REFLEKS™ HP/MD
(On-Line Brochure)

Introduction

The REFLEKS™ HP/MD fiber optic system is the most innovative and advanced tank & container gauging system  for liquids on the market today.   The combination of laser measuring techniques and fiber optics culminate in a system that is precise, rugged and inherently safe.

The system is composed of three primary elements:  the battery operated portable reader unit, the fiber optic connector box and fiber optic sensor head(s).  A single portable reader unit may access multiple sensor heads (up to 50). One sensor head and one connection box are required for each tank to be inventoried.  Only one reader unit is required to inventory an entire tank farm or even tanks located at geographically separate points.  The optical sensors must be located in the top of the tank or container.   The connector boxes are located at ground level or some other convenient location.   Inventory information is gathered by optically "plugging" in to individual connector boxes, entering the appropriate Tank ID#  via the reader unit’s keypad and taking the measurement.

Horizontal Tank
No power supply is required at the tank site.  No electrical components or conductors are installed at the tank.  The system is designed for simple installation.  It may be easily and quickly  installed by your own maintenance people.

Thank you for considering the REFLEKS™ HP/MD SERIES SYSTEM.  We think that you will be glad you did.

TankTypes

REFLEKS™ READER UNITS

Reader Units are available in three  models:  the HP/MD1015, 1025 and 1035.  For tanks up to 15, 25 and 35 feet in height, respectively.

Reader UnitsThe reader unit is attached to the operator's belt via a handy clip supplied with each unit. Each unit has an optical cable and connector that is stowed, when not in use, in a saddle mounted on the unit (shown in stowed position).  The optical connector cable is "plugged" in to a tank’s connector box when the inventory is taken.  Up to 50 different geometric tank configurations may be programmed into a single reader unit.

Once programming is complete, the reader unit will calculate and display innage, outage, and volume after each inventory event.  All inventory information is stored in memory for recall at a later time.  The inventory information may be recalled via the on-board display or via the RS-232 option and your PC.

All reader units will calculate and display volume in gallons, US barrels and pounds, as well as liters and kilograms.  Linear measurements may be programmed to display in inches, feet and inches, or meters.

OPTICAL SENSOR HEADS

Sensor heads are available in models MDS 15, 25 and 35.  For tanks up to 15, 25 and 35 feet in height, respectively.

Sensor HeadsSensor heads require only a 1" NPT opening in the tank top.  Sensor heads may be mounted directly into a tank opening via common pipe nipple if the tank opening is within 2.5 degrees of level.  For tanks or tank openings outside this tolerance, a stainless steel flex fitting (FLX10) is offered.  All sensor heads have solid aluminum anodized bodies and are encased in stainless steel housings.  Each sensor head has a glass level mounted in the top to ensure that the sensor is mounted perpendicular to the fluid surface.  All sensor heads are designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

OPTICAL JUNCTION BOX

The MDEN15 is a NEMA 4X rated enclosure that mounts at a remote location to optical sensor head.  The MDEN provides a waterproof enclosure for the optical receptacle that receives the reader unit cable connector.

Junction BoxAll MDEN enclosures include mounting provision for the MDCC shutter control cable.

MDEN enclosures come complete with mounting hardware or may simply be attached via adhesive to a suitable surface.  All MDEN enclosures are tapped for 3/8" NPT conduit if required.

FIBER OPTIC CABLE ASSMEBLIES

Fiber optic cable assemblies are available in both standard and custom configurations.  Standard configurations include fiber lengths suitable for mounting on 15, 25 and 35 foot tank heights.

FibersCustom lengths are available for applications requiring greater distances between optical sensor head and enclosure box.

All fiber cable assemblies come pre-connectorized and require no special skills for installation.

POWER PACKS

The battery Power Packs for the HP/MD reader unit are designed to be external to the unit.  This enables the user to utilize multiple Power Packs so that a fresh battery is always available. Power Packs come in two sizes:   PP1, and PP2.   PP2 Power Packs contain approximately 3 times the life of the standard PP1 Power Pack.

Power PacksA fully charged PP1 Power Pack will deliver approximately 75 tank inventories.

Power Packs come with a handy belt clip or may be attached directly to the reader unit.

SHUTTER W/ CONTROL CABLE

For particularly difficult applications where oily vapors, airborne particulates or extreme condensation problems may exist, installation of the MDV15, 25 or 35 may be appropriate.

ShutterThe MDV shutter is designed so that the sensor head is exposed to the tank atmosphere for only the short period of time that it takes to perform the inventory measurement.   At all other times, the shutter is closed.  This protects the sensor and its optical elements from airborne contamination that may form in some extreme applications and prevents degradation of optical power and sensitivity.  The MDV shutter is operated via a control cable.  The control cable is operated via lever housed in the MDEN enclosure.
Purchase of the MDV15, 25,or 35 includes up to 40’ of control cable.
